Christmas is always magical when you’re a kid and creating some fun festive activities only adds to that magic. As the best time of the year quickly approaches, we’ve come up with five fun festive activities to help you and the kids build up to the big day.

Christmas cards 

Sending your Christmas cards to friends and family is always a warm feeling. Getting your kids in on the act can add a lovely twist onto your family Christmas cards. Sit them down for an arts and craft day and get creative with some colourful sparkles and tinsel! In a time when we’ve all been so far apart from each other, Christmas cards are a perfect way to make us feel that bit closer.

Baubles

Decorating the Christmas tree with lights, baubles and sparkling stars should be a tradition for all families. Want to get the kids more involved? Get them to make their own! Just like Christmas cards, designing baubles gives your kids a hand in decorating the house. These baubles can stay in the family for years and quickly become part of tradition. If there’s anything that’s going to get the family into the Christmas spirit, it’s decorating the tree with some home-made baubles!

Letter to Father Christmas

Sitting your kids down to write a letter to Saint Nick is one of the best ways to raise the excitement levels. Not only are they getting some important writing practice in, those letters will be very amusing to look back on in a few years time. You can take them all the way to the post box too - who knows if they get what they want in return!

Christmas cookies

Even the kids know that Christmas is all about the food. The festive season is the perfect excuse to get baking with the little ones! We’d suggest buying some fun Christmas shapes, like Father Christmas, Rudolph and Christmas trees, and decorating them with some delicious icing and colourful sprinkles when they’ve finished baking. You could even leave some out for Santa on Christmas Eve!

In our eyes, buying those standard chocolate advent calendars isn’t interesting enough. Advent calendars can last for years if you and the kids make and decorate your own. You’ve also got much more opportunity to mix up the treats every day and create some real surprises. Just make sure the reward is big on the 24th!

Those moments where the tree’s lights are sparkling and the family is sitting by the warm fire reading a Christmas story are what the festive season is all about. Getting the kids involved with the decorations can make Christmas even more fun than it already is!
