Destination Home: How To Make The Most Of The One-on-one Time With Your Child

Spending one-on-one time with your tot is going to be more fisable than ever during lockdown. If you can make the most of this time together it can have a huge impact on your relationship and deepen the connection between you both. Here’s a few ways to spend some quality one-on-one time with your little one.

Push their passions

Whether they love Thomas the Tank Engine or they’re a fan of playing dress up, getting involved with your child’s passions is a great way of making the most of one-on-one time. They’ll appreciate you taking the time to learn about their interests, which will inevitably bring you closer together. All this is much better than spending one-on-one time forcing your child into an activity they dislike.

Make them part of your routine

When you’re pottering around the house or going out on your errands, getting your child involved with your daily activities adds some bonus one-on-one time to your daily routine. For instance, asking them to make a shopping list with you and cross off the items as you put them in the trolly. That feeling of doing important tasks together is a brilliant way to spend some one-on-one time.

Special date night

As a treat, why not give your little one some lee-way when it comes to bedtime once a week? Let them stay up for an extra 30 minutes or hour to spend some quality time with you. You could start playing a board game or have a long reading night, but make sure it’s only between you and them. That extra incentive of staying up late will make them all the more excited to spend that one-on-one time with you.

Cooking

As a routine that occurs every evening, getting your child involved with the cooking is a brilliant way to spend some one-on-one time together. Not only is there a sense of purpose, but the educational benefits are very valuable for the future. Whether you’re getting them to lay the table or fetch you ingredients, doing an important task like this together can only strengthen the bond between the two of you.

Spending quality one-on-one time with your child is the best method of building a deep relationship. If you can make that time productive, passionate and, most importantly, fun, you and your little one will make the most out of your time together.
