We certainly do, and the world is a huge place full of wondrous things… particularly through the eyes of those little ones!

In this new set of blog articles we will be taking you through some interesting new destinations you and the family can try out… Our first stop; Poreč in Croatia!

Poreč is steeped in history, blending Croatia and Italian cultures.

Poreč is a harbour town on the western coast of the Istrian region – one of the country’s most popular holiday spots! It is almost 2,000 years old and has a church which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Interestingly, the town has two names – Poreč and Parenzo – because the area has a mix of Croatian and Italian heritage – a great way to show your little ones two different cultures for the price of one!

The weather in Poreč is gloriously sunny with an average of more than 10 hours of gleaming sun on peak summer days. The town also has a lovely sea breeze which is perfect for families not so keen on that awful sticky heat! The town is at its busiest in July and August, and most quiet in January when the temperature gets down to a wintry low of 5°C (let’s avoid January shall we? hehe).

The town quite simply has loads of family orientated activities and things to see… It sits on a beautiful coastline with stretches of beach, where you can spend the day having a splash, sunbathing and playing with the tots in the sand! There are also two adventure parks nearby, perfect for little feet to scamper and explore: Aquacolours, which is one of the largest waterparks in south-east Europe with slides, pools and water rivers, and Adventure Park Sky Fox, which is an activities park in a gorgeous oak forest that has a number of climbing frames, a kart racing track and buggy off-road trails to discover… Should keep the little ones entertained huh?

There’s plenty to do in Poreč, day or night!

With plenty to keep the everyone busy, you’ll probably be wondering where you’ll be able to get a bit of peace and quiet! Well, don’t worry because Poreč is a great place for parents too! There are two areas a short distance from the centre of town, called Zelena Laguna (Green Lagoon) and Plava Laguna (Blue Lagoon). These areas have hotels, marinas, shopping and entertainment areas, which makes them perfect for quieter days away from the town centre where you can relax and do some retail therapy! The town is also surrounded by forests for peaceful walks and nearby to the Lim bay and Valley which has regular boat tours to take in the stunning scenery!

When you’re done with your fun-filled day, Poreč town centre has a number of great places to go and eat. The restaurants are spread across the town with great seafood, traditional grill houses, Italian and Croatian cuisine to choose from. You’ll be sure to find the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the setting sun! Looking for some Istrian specialities? Novigradske kapešante – Istrian scallops are a local favourite due to their incredible freshness. Try with fresh bread and plenty of local olive oil!

Planning your next family holiday? Make sure Poreč is on your short list – an interesting & different place to take the little ones, so they can start so sample the many cultures of the world from a young age!

Živjeli! (Cheers!)
