There’s no better way to bond with your little ones that enjoying nature with them! Forget the iPad, silence the smartphones and chuck modern life out the window, because here are our favourite natural areas that the whole family will love exploring!
Calf of Man (Isle of Man)
This island will give you the wildlife thrills of a Planet Earth documentary! Your kids will become real nature explorers here: there are over 30 species of bird here every year, not to mention the seals, dolphins and basking sharks that come to visit! So, make sure the whole family have got binoculars and their best Attenborough impressions at the ready!
Kynance Cove (Cornwall)
This tidal beach looks like a tropical beach that’s been attached to the Cornish coast! Clear blue waters lap into a sand beach that’s dotted with dramatic rock formations; talk about paradise! It’s perfect for a dip and a surf, or exploring rock pools at low tide with your little ones! When you’ve worked up an appetite, there’s a great café to refuel at!
Mount Snowdon (Snowdonia)
The highest mountain in Wales and England is just the place to reach the peak of fun with your little ones! There are a number of paths you can take to walk up it, or alternatively, there’s a railway which can take you to the top! Either way, you’ll be able to enjoy views which stretch across 144 miles!
Durdle Door (Dorset)
This coastal archway looks like its namesake: an open door leading out to sea! Let your little kid’s inspiration run wild at Durdle Door, which has provided inspiration for countless songs, films and pieces of literature. This beautiful feature is just one of the attractions to this coastline; named the Jurassic Coast, this area is famous for its dinosaur fossils! So, get your camera ready and channel your inner dinosaur hunters!
Arthur’s Seat (Edinburgh)
If your little ones like to believe in legends and fairy tales, this is the place for you! Just above the city of Edinburgh, stands Arthur’s Seat. This beautiful extinct volcano is supposedly the home of Camelot, the legendary castle and court of King Arthur himself! Besides the legendary mystery, this spot provides a fantastic view over the whole of the city and beyond!
Glencoe (Scottish Highlands)
You’ll feel a million miles away in Glencoe! This area of mountains and streams feels like something out a picture-book! Your little walkers will have a great time exploring the scenery and the wildlife on offer here: you can take in some familiar sites which were used for filming in Monty Python, Harry Potter and James Bond, and if you’re lucky, you’ll even catch a glimpse of a golden eagle.
Giant’s Causeway (County Antrim)
Despite its sci-fi looking formation, this formation of 40,000 interlocking hexagon rock columns is 100% naturelle! That’s if you don’t believe in the legend which gives it its name! Your little explorers will love to hear the legend that these rocks were built into causeway by a giant to walk all the way from Northern Ireland to Scotland! Plus, (for Mums and Dads only) it’s nearby Bushmills: a town that’s famous for its smooth Irish Whiskey!
Black Moss Pot (Cumbria)
If you’re a family that always ready and rearing to go, you can’t go wrong at Black Moss Pot! This stretch of water in the Langastrath Valley is one of UK’s natural spas, which means that all it’s waiting for is a good pair of waterproof booties, a wetsuit and a pinch of bravery, for the whole family to jump in for a wild swim!
Exploring and discovering nature is a great way to bond with your kids; it’s fun, it’s active and it’s wholesome! Once you’ve been to one of our natural areas and experienced it for yourself, you’ll realise that the best way to bond as a family is to leave modern life behind and get wild again!
