Our Tips For Making The Most Of Exercise With Your Kids During Lockdown

Lockdown has returned to the UK, and the time we can spend outside with our little ones is limited again. However, we’re here to remind you not to despair. There are plenty of ways to make the most of exercise time with your kids - here are a few of our favourites:

On your bike!

Jumping in the car to take the kids to school is something we’re all guilty of. Why not make a change during lockdown by cycling to school instead. Need more motivation? Studies have shown that drivers and passengers sitting in heavy traffic are exposed to nine times more pollution than cyclists. We say find some safe cycling gear and hit the road with your little ones.

Teach them about your routine

There’s probably no better time to teach your kids about your exercise routine and why it’s important to the mind and body. Why not try and incorporate your child into one of your workout plans for the week: if you’re used to lifting weights, why not lift your little one instead and explain to them which muscles you’re using etc. Teaching the little ones about exercise is a great lesson for the future, plus it makes your workout a lot more fun!

Make trips to the park

It’s easy to forget that there are some great green spaces just around the corner from most of us. Making the most of parks during lockdown is a great way to get exercise, teach your kids about nature and make sure they keep up with socialising. The government has said they will be keeping playgrounds at parks open for kids, so why not organise a playdate between your child and someone from their school to enjoy time together on the weekend.

Enjoy autumn

The leaves are falling and the streets are covered with puddles, which makes it the perfect season for having some messy fun with the little ones. Why not get your kids fully-kitted out in wellies and less important clothes to go and get messy in. As well as having some harmless fun, touching and smelling natural elements such as leaves and mud is really important for their development.

We know that the prospect of lockdown can feel a bit bleak for many families, but enjoying exercise outside with your kids is one way of making the best of a bad situation. Follow our four fun tips above and we’re sure that you’ll have a great time being active with your little ones!
